Finding the perfect school shoe is important as your child spends so much time in them – choosing the wrong shoe can impact their growth and development.

How to make sure your children’s school shoes fit correctly:

Ensure their toes can wiggle freely in the shoes
Allow 1cm between the big toe and the end of the shoe
Make sure the shoes can be adjusted; laces, velcro and buckles are features to look for
Take their school socks and/or stockings shopping with you. This will help to make sure that the shoes have enough depth for your children's feet and meet uniform requirements

Does your child have a ‘hard to fit foot’?

If you struggle finding school shoes that fit correctly, it’s a good idea to see a podiatrist – find one near you by using our ‘Find a Podiatrist’ tool.

Podiatrists can determine if your child has a wide foot or narrow foot; they can also check foot development, identify structural concerns (e.g., flat feet) and address any queries you may have (e.g., foot or leg pain, rashes, consistent falls or smell).
